How to identify a jail broken iphone?

I’ve noticed jailbroken iPhones usually boot with a pineapple logo rather than Apple logo. I’m just not sure if ALL jailbroken iPhones do like this.

Jailbreaking an iPhone is a way to get service from other companies besides AT&T, as well as some other application related stuff.

If you can boot the iPhone, I believe you can simply restore it in iTunes and it will remove the jailbroken settings. You may want to manually restore it to 2.1 so that it will not update. Then after that you could update. Restoring it should put it back to its original state.

But there are ways to really mess up a jailbroken iPhone. So maybe some other answers could help clarify.
